Memorial Day Weekend at the lake

“The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender or submission.” — John F. Kennedy

Raise your hand if you are dragging yourself to work today after enjoying a nice, long weekend. I have a case of the Mondays Tuesdays.

Silver lining: short work week and then we can do it all over again!

I hope your Memorial Day weekend was fantastic! The weather was phenomenal and seemed to want to cooperate for the most part. My husband wouldn’t know though, because he’s been holed up, studying for his CPA exam and gets to live vicariously through my social media posts… I’m sorry, bro. #sadface

Saturday found me lounging around the pool (you can find the flamingo here and the swan here). Following a morning of a whole-lotta-nothin’, I ventured to Winter Garden Village to fight my way through the hordes of shoppers at Old Navy‘s Memorial Day weekend sale, where I scored two pairs of shorts, three shirts, and two button-down shirts for Halston–all for just $85! I know! Some heroes don’t wear capes.

My favorite place.

That evening I was able to check out Better Than Sex with two of my girlfriends, Sera and Erin. It’s located in Ivanhoe Village near the White Wolf Cafe. The restaurant itself is very small, with about eleven tables inside, three outside. It is recommended that you reserve a table prior to showing up and that your party doesn’t exceed more than five guests. However, after going inside and seeing the cozy furniture, the pictures that adorn the walls and the mood lighting, I don’t think they’ll have a problem of giant parties, since this seems like the perfect spot to cozy up to a date or hangout with your closest girlfriends.

The dessert-only restaurant serves desserts with names like Cookie Nookie and the Morning After and drinks with names like “Money” Shot and The Shocker. I ordered Popcorn Pimp Cheesecake and I wish I could write out the menu description on this blog but I wouldn’t be able to stop laughing. I also have no pictures or documentation of my visit since the lighting doesn’t lend itself for #foodie pics. Guess you’ll have to check it out for yourself!

On Monday, I headed out to Mt. Dora to go boating through the Harris Chain of Lakes with my friend Megan. This chain connects the towns of Eustis, Tavares, Mt. Dora and Leesburg and it is well known as a bass fishing destination in the state. Along the edge of the lakes, we saw spectacular real estate and quaint little restaurants and bars that we could dock at and grab a quick bite. And although I was quite enjoying the idyllic setting around me, my very real and very rational fear of lakes (hello, alligators!) began setting in once it was time to go tubing. I held on for dear life like an absolute legend, only fell off once AND I still have all my toes. I can’t say I’ve conquered my fear of lakes, but hey, at least I tried.

What sort of shenanigans did you get up to this weekend?

xx
